KHURHA
Iran.
Near Qum on the road between
Qum and Arak are the remains of a Seleucid temple.
Two columns of the peristyle stand intact. Smooth stone
shafts, 11 diameters in height, stand on two high plinths
and a still higher torus: the capitals are rather poorly
understood Ionic. The temple awaits excavation. Set in
a region of vineyards, the area is strewn with the sherds
of wine jugs and it has been suggested that the temple
was dedicated to Dionysos.
